This was my first time visiting Santee Cooper Lake In South Carolina. We had the opportunity to fish Lake Marion to the North or Lake Moultrie to the South which were connected by a canal. The lakes were more than 156,000 surface acres. I had chosen to spend my practice and tournament in Lake Marion. This lake seemed to have cleaner water and more creek arms for the fish to migrate to for the spawn. I basically spent my practice in two areas of the lake. Jack’s Creek on the Northeastern part of the lake and an area on the Southeastern part. Jack’s Creek proved to be a better area for me so I decided to start the event there. Water clarity was around one foot and water temps generally started out in the mid-fifties warming to nearly sixty every day. In this area I fished the main creek nearest to the mouth where I thought fish would be coming into the creek and starting to stage to spawn. I was getting my bites on a wacky worm senko targeting cypress trees and scattered vegetation. The first day of the event for my group I finished in 31st place with three fish for 7 pounds. The second day I spent my time in the same areas where I again had three keepers for 8-08 pounds and this dropped me to 37th place for the event. The bite on these lakes was very location specific and only certain areas of the lake had productive areas where fish were using. Lots of the anglers used vibrating jigs and covered water to find these types of areas and then spent much of their days in the specific areas where they got bit.
